The following data is from the Emergency Departments of Queensland Health Hospitals.
*The diagnosis at time of ED admission and discharge is not always a definitive diagnosis.*

From June 2021 until June 2022, there was 19692 additional cases above the yearly average for Chest Pain. Using the rate of 33%, there was around 6498 additional cases in those aged under 40 against the yearly average.
As a ratio, for each positive covid case associated with Chest Pain, 9 cases of Chest Pain occurred in under 40’s from ‘unknown causes’.
From June 2021 until June 2022, there was 5094 additional cases above the yearly average of Other Chest Pain. Using the rate of 49%, there was around 2496 additional cases in those under 40.
As a ratio, for each positive covid case associated with Other Chest Pain, 21 cases of Other Chest Pain occurred in under 40’s from ‘unknown causes’.
In an Emergency Department setting, the evidence may suggest that for those under 40, the risk of both Chest Pain and Other Chest Pain from ‘unknown causes’ far exceeds the associated risk from covid 19 infection.
